Due to the opening up of the city towards the sea, a process that began during the 1980s, the seafront has become one of the busiest leisure areas in Barcelona. Its most outstanding points are:
The commercial port, Access with projection or step of 2 to 5 cm height, ramps with a moderate slope, sufficiently wide doors, lifts for 5 people, adapted toilet services., the main ways enabling one to move around without too many architectural barriers.
Port Vell, Level ground access or by ramps with a gentle slope, very wide door, lifts for 6 or more people, adapted toilet services., currently a leisure area, in which the majority of the streets and buildings have been rehabilitated and where there is a large area of restaurants.
Barceloneta,Access with projection or step of 5 to 17 cm height, steep ramps, lifts for 4 people, practicable or useable toilet services located in remote or special places. A lot of help is required from another person., the old fishermen’s district, where it is easy to move around without obstacles only on the main streets and the Seafront Promenade.
Port Olímpic,Level ground access or by ramps with a gentle slope, very wide door, lifts for 6 or more people, adapted toilet services., the sports port created in 1992 for the Olympic Games and Paralympics, where there are many restaurants that serve seafood specialities.
Diagonal Mar, Level ground access or by ramps with a gentle slope, very wide door, lifts for 6 or more people, adapted toilet services., a new district situated in the east end of Diagonal, facing the sea. It has a big shopping area, green spaces, housing and hotels.
The Forum Area, Level ground access or by ramps with a gentle slope, very wide door, lifts for 6 or more people, adapted toilet services., an area urbanised for the Universal Forum of the Cultures Barcelona 2004, totally accessible and currently converted into the Forum park, a free public space of more than 25 hectares, designed above all for family leisure.
